    Cypher Creatures: Egribba

    Happy Friday, Folks!

This month's member bonus complements the current season and our previously released new year's festival, Firstdawn, which is celebrated in our core fantasy world of Quaseloth.

The egribba (with art by Toby Blanchard) are fey spirits and celestial servants of the goddess Keech, who are devoted to ensuring that every gathering that they attend is the party of a lifetime.

(Previously related releases here, here, and here.)

Enjoy, happy gaming, and happy holidays!

    Egribba 3 (9)

Servants of the deity Keech, a goddess of fey and nature, egribba are the embodiment of the childlike joy and wonder that comes with true celebration. Drawn from their mistress’s celestial realm whenever her worshippers are gathered together in revelry, these spirit fey will secretly immerse themselves in the festivities, darting unseen from activity to activity and spreading feelings of euphoria and delight with their otherworldly auras.
But egribba can go far beyond simply enhancing the atmosphere of a celebration. They’re so enamored with spreading good cheer in the mortal realms that they’ll directly intervene when something or someone looks like they might derail the jubilation. Egribba are capable of wreaking small-scale havoc on anything they deem to be in the way of ending the fun too soon, employing the small tricks and magics they have at their disposal and disappearing in a puff of festive twinkles when caught. Given their position in the celestial realm, this sort of meddling in mortal affairs is supposed to be incredibly limited. But egribba are, after all, fey spirits. So pushing the limits of what they should and should not do is second nature to them.
Firstdawn seems to be of particular interest to egribba, who are drawn to the concentrations of mirth and merriment that the celebration of the new year brings like moths to a flame. Normally, unless they intervene among the mortals too many times, egribba remain an unseeable presence at any festival they bless with their presence. But at Firstdawn, the fey-celestials often become so lost in the spirit and radiance of the holiday that they become visible without even realizing it—further adding to the day’s legacy of legend and wonder.

Motive: Facilitate celebrations and bring joy
Environment: Anywhere Keetch is worshipped and celebrations occur
    Health: 10
    Damage inflicted: 0 (3 - see description)
    Movement: Short
Modifications: Positive social interaction and Intellect defense tasks as level 5; small magics tasks as level 4
Combat: Egribba are fey spirits devoted to spreading and enhancing joy and are completely incapable of doing purposeful physical harm to a creature, although supernaturally evil creatures suffer 2 damage when targeted by any of their abilities.
At any time during a round, an egribba can teleport up to a long distance away to a point that it can see, leaving behind a puff of festively appropriate particulates (glitter, snowflakes, flower petals, etc) in the air. After using this ability it must wait one round before it can do so again.
While on the mortal plane, egribba remain invisible until they use too much of their magic to interfere with mortals. If an egribba uses three of its small magic abilities in one day, it becomes entirely visible.
Egribba possess many small magics that they can use to bless celebrations and those attending them, including the following:
Aura of Elation: Creatures within short range of the egribba that fail an Intellect defense roll find themselves filled to the brim with elation for one hour.
Celebration-Ready: Removes one curse or cures one malady (disease, poison, etc.) from a creature. The curse or malady must be level 5 or lower.
Helping Hand: The egribba blesses a character, providing them with an asset on the next non combat task they attempt in the next twenty-four hours.
Imbue Revelry: Instills a sense of cheerful inebriation in a target creature that fails an Intellect defense roll for one hour. While affected, the target creature’s non festival-specific tasks are hindered by two steps and they experience confusion when attempting to leave or end the current celebration.
Party Favors: Can refill the contents of a food or drink container. The container can be up to festival-sized (barrel of ale, basket of loaves, string of pheasants, etc.) and cannot be completely empty of its prior contents.
Well-Meaning Illusion: Creates up to a festival-sized illusion used to improve a party’s atmosphere. Egribba normally use illusions to enhance music, decorations, etc., but will also use them to confuse or deter potential threats to their festivities. Seeing through the egribba’s illusion is a level 4 Intellect task.
When an egribba’s physical form is killed on the mortal plane, it immediately regenerates on the celestial plane of their goddess, Keech.
Interaction: Egribba are sweet and good-natured fey spirits, but due to the celestial rules that they must abide by, they shy away from direct communication with mortals—although this is another rule they often bend to the point of breaking.
Use: The inclusion of the egribba’s well-intentioned meddling can elevate any festival or celebration encounter to entertaining or disastrous results.
GM Intrusion: A character does something that makes the egribba think they’ll ruin the festivities and they become the focus of their blessings.
